Therapy Intensives are Evidence-Based
In the therapy world, we are always going on about “evidence-based practices.” This is because we want to make sure the interventions we use actually work to help our clients heal. “Evidence-based” isn’t the only way to accomplish that, but it’s a good place to start. Did you know that Therapy Intensives are Evidence-Based? It’s one of the many reasons I believe in them with my whole heart! If you are going to invest your time, money, and most of all your emotional effort into therapy, you want to make sure it’s going to work!
I’m a real science nerd, so I love reading peer-reviewed journals that share about the therapy that is evidence-based, including Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) and Internal Family Systems Therapy (IFS), two modalities that I use in session every day. My favorite is a blend of them, which is called IFS informed EMDR!
Did you know that intensive therapy is gaining more and more evidence as well? The process to become an “evidence-based practice” is a long one, taking many years of research and peer review by academics. However, we are off to a great start! You can read some academic journal articles about the effectives of intensive therapy here

And even Harvard recently published an article about the effectiveness of intensive therapy! One of their key takeaways is that intensive therapy reduces the drop-out rate of therapy, which is so important if you want to successfully complete trauma therapy and not have to keep returning to it.
There are lots of ways to do intensive therapy, so there aren’t many studies yet on just one particular way. But I think the results speak for themselves. I work with people for 30 hours of intense therapy in 5 days, using IFS informed EMDR to clear away trauma, and using somatic approaches to be gentle while we do it. It changes people’s lives!
Want to try an intensive of your own? Being with people for a 5 day trauma healing intensive is one of my favorite things in the world. Reach out today!
