Second Printing of You Will Get Through This

Jul 20, 2024 | Uncategorized

We just heard exciting news from the publisher. You Will Get Through This is being sent to a second printing! That does mean that Charity, Julie, and Nicole are reading through the book again to make sure every possible punctuation error has been found. After watching Charity continue to work so hard on her book, I am so appreciative to see their hard work recognized.

Rooted in psychotherapy, this helpful book is filled with research and practical approaches for coping with a wide variety of mental health conditions. It also covers important topics like how to talk about mental health struggles with others. A great resource for families.”
Ken Duckworth, MD, chief medical officer of the National Alliance on Mental Illness and author of You Are Not Alone: The NAMI Guide to Navigating Mental Health

The publisher, the Experiment, was able to get great author blurbs to promote the book. However, my favorite reviews are from readers who have bought the book, and cared enough to write a positive review. Here’s a few we’ve picked out:

Amazon Customer Review for You Will Get Through This: An excellent resource and all encompassing guide. This book is a wonderful resource for anyone looking to understand their own mental health and wellness or to support a loved one experiencing mental health challenges. The authors all bring a unique perspective and wealth of knowledge in the field to this work. The book is easily digestible and broken down in ways that provide summary and an overview that can be easily understood by those new to exploring their own mental health journeys. I would recommend this resource as an extremely useful guide and helpful resource for other clinicians as well.
Important mental health resource - Everyone should read! As a therapist myself, this book will be one of my top recommendations for clients! This book is an easy to read, comprehensive resource that walks the reader through what common mental health challenges are and gives snapshots of how specific disorders might present in someone's life. Then it goes further to give methods to cope, helpful treatments and ways to talk with loved ones. Throughout the book are many additional resources and the authors do a great job of reducing stigma of the conditions that affect many people in our world as well as addressing inclusivity and barriers some might face. The ease of reading makes it a book that everyone can understand the information and a great starting place that empowers a person to advocate for the help they deserve! A wonderful, through guide to mental health. Calling all my late-diagnosed-neurodivergent friends! This book is a beautifully written, comprehensive guide to mental health. Its layout is very easy to understand, to reference and to pay attention to (my mind wanders usually when I read non-fiction!). I found helpful information in all the chapters, despite reading specifically for my own diagnosis. If you're feeling lost or stuck and don't know where to start in your mental health journey, please pick up this book! You won't regret it!

It’s been a joy to see Charity, Julie, and Nicole’s hard work recognized. I’ve thanked our friends and community for their support. We also want to thank readers of “You Will Get Through This” who may be reading this post. You are reason this book exists.

If you are looking for more information about mental health resources, I would like to highlight additional resources and services from the authors.

Trauma and PTSD Resources

Helping people heal from trauma has been Charity’s life’s work. Her work in intensive therapy retreats integrates multiple models including Somatic work, Parts work, and EMDR. She offers services that draw on her 20 years of experience healing trauma with clients. Yes, she’s a badass.

For professionals who want to develop a trauma-informed practice, or a therapy intensive practice of their own, Charity offers supervision and consultations.

To make information about trauma accessible to everyone, Charity has created on 8-hour online course. During the training Charity draws on her 20 years of experience doing trauma work with clients. The course is organized into four modules.

  1. Foundational skills for self-regulation during trauma activation
  2. Understanding the neuro-biology of trauma,
  3. Helping the parts of yourself to heal from their wounds.
  4. Integrating and applying the information to your life.

Charity offers therapy intensives in a retreat setting. Intensive therapy usually entails having an extended sessions- Charity usually works with clients for six hours a day for 3-5 days in a row. If you’ve been in therapy for a long time without seeing results, a therapy intensive can provide breakthoughs, because you will have time to fully process traumatic experiences without running out of time as may happen in a typical therapy session.

How to Talk to a Loved One

You do not have to figure out the “perfect” thing to say before you make an attempt to speak with a loved one.

I particularly valued the sections in You Will Get Through This that discussed how to talk to people about mental health concerns. Following up on that theme, Dr Julie Radico recently published an article in Psychology Today about How to Talk to a Loved One Who Is Struggling. While reading the article, I appreciated the encouragement that there is no “perfect” thing to say; just be careful if you are approaching a conversation with an agenda.

She offers therapy as well as career coaching for women in the medical workforce. She is also a valued speaker and consultant for for Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Accessibility (DEIA); female leadership; and Organizational Development.

Accessing on-going therapy

Dr. Nicole Helverson keeps her own list of recommended resources, and provides on-going therapy to clients in New Jersey and Pennsylvania. In addition to being a psychologist, she’s also a trained yoga teacher, and brings a body-based approach to her clients. Her practice accepts private insurance. One of the topics covered in the book is how difficult it can be to find the right fit in therapy- especially someone who takes insurance! Dr. Nicole has provided light for so many people looking for a therapist who can truly understand them.
